Minas Viejas, N.L. Mexico

February, 2007

I needed to return my car permit to Mexico so I could sell the Xterra. At the same time, I got together with Nico to make the trip worth while and visit Minas Viejas while down there.

After hitting Bustamante for needed good foods and beer, we headed up the road for Minas. Its a beautiful drive.

We followed Shannon in his new vehicle which he hauled A$$ up the road in. I had all the food, beer and 7 gallons of water strapped on the back of the X. We stopped to open a gate only to find that EVERYTHING had fallen off. This is one of the scenes of mass carnage, many beer were lost, a sad day!!

We had the ranch all to ourselves. Nico set us up in some newly remodeled ruins for the weekend. We had come prepared to camp, but given the cold wind that never stops up there we were glad to have a bed.

Saturday we took our time getting to Cueva de Cuchillo. This is up on the mesa where everyone checked out the local minerals.

This is where I had wanted to camp. Its the rim of the canyons to the east, great views.

Taking in the views.
